Sometimes when I am looking for gift ideas for someone, I type in '_____ gift ideas' into Google. Perhaps you actually did that for Mothers Day Gift Ideas. Well, I often wonder who is actually writing these Top Ten Gift Idea Lists because they recommend some of the strangest gifts!

Then I thought, since I am a mom, who better to recommend gift ideas for Mother's Day? Of course, no matter what you give a mother, she will appreciate it - even if it is a simple phone call to say I Love You! (She will love that phone call even more if you tell her what is happening in your life.)

The first thing you must think of is your Mom. What makes her smile? What has she always wanted to do, but just doesn't have the time for? When she has a few minutes to herself what is her favorite activity to do? Does she have a hobby?

These are some things to think about to get you started.

Ideas for Mothers Day Gifts

  • Photographs - This could be a simple - a picture in a frame. It could be a DVD of digital photographs of a child's life put to music. Or, you can make a scrapbook of your favorite times spent with your mom.
  • Flowers - Many moms love flowers and Mothers Day falls during the time of year when it is time to plant flowers for the summer. Potted hanging baskets, a gardening or lawn service, or a simple trio of potted herbs for a window.
  • Simple Pleasures - High thread count sheets, a fancy Keurig coffee maker, or a Mani / Pedi session at her favorite salon.
  • High Tech Gadgets - These aren't only for men, moms love things that make their life easier too. What better gift than one of the best ebook readers if she loves to read books? How about the new Ipad to help keep her and the family's schedule organized?
  • Handmade Gifts - Moms really do love to get presents from their kids that they have made. It always makes me smile when I see the picture frame my daughter painted for me. Sometimes these projects are too much for kids to handle on their own, so dads can take them to a local art shop where they can make their own present for mom.
  • Time Off - Offers of help are a great way to show your mom some love, especially if you don't have any money for a gift. Give your mom a day off and do the things she normally does for you for her. Cook her dinner, clean the bathroom, fold laundry, take the recycling out, or cut the grass, etc...
  • Back to School - Give her the gift of learning a new skill. Perhaps she has always wanted to take a class in gourmet cooking or cake decorating. Digital photography, acrylic painting, landscape design, acting, singing, or any other life enriching class. Moms often leave behind their own desires when kids enter the picture, so a gift like this will give her new knowledge and time to get back to herself.

Hopefully somewhere on this list you have found some inspiration for your Mom's gift this Mother's Day. Just remember, Mother's Day is a day to show your mom how much you appreciate all that she has done for you. Just a card letting her know you care will mean everything!
