Have Fun with American Girl Crafts
Girls who are at the age where they love to play with their American Girl doll, usually love to make stuff too. There is a new line of projects and crafts out that are targeted to these specific girls.
They are pre-packaged craft projects that most girls would love to do. From sewing a felt phone case to decoupaging letters for their room. There is also an entire line of American Girl scrapbooking supplies for those kids who want to create their own book of memories. These supplies are also perfect for moms making scrapbooks about their daughter's trip an American Girls Store.
These projects are targeted for the 8 to 12 year old, and have all of the necessary supplies to finish the craft. You don't have to buy anything additional to complete the craft. These make a wonderful gift for those kids who really love their American doll. You can even buy some of these (like the American Girl Tech Case Sewing Kit) for your daughter to make as a gift for one of her friends.
We've used these for craft projects at birthday parties and they double as a favor. It is a win-win for the girls because they get to have a great time making these with their friends and then they also get to go home with the project that reminds them of the party.
For a summer Girl Scout sleepover we made scrapbook pages that they then took home and inserted their own pictures of their friends from camp. It was a nice to hear them talk about their experiences at camp because they tend to talk about stuff that they wouldn't normally tell you.
Some of these crafts, like the sewing activities, take a little bit of patience if your girl doesn't have any experience doing it. But what is great about these American Girl doll products is that they are not so complicated that they can't be completed in a couple of hours.
Scrapbooking For Kids with American Girl Dolls
If your daughter is really into making paper crafts then the entire line of scrapbooking supplies that has been put out by American Girl Doll will be a great addition to her collection. With these supplies she will feel like she can make and design true American doll crafts. She can make her own cards for friends, design her own invitations for parties, and even make presents for family and friends out of these papar stacks, hole punches, and stencils.
American Girl Books
One of the smartest marketing tactics that this company used was to give the American dolls names and they created a whole history of their life that was then put into the books. The American Girl Historical Collection books show the girls what it was like to live in a certain period of time.
The three original American Girl Historical Characters introduced in 1986.
- Kirsten - 1854 is the year that we read about in her story.
- Samantha - 1904 is the year her character experiences.
- Molly - 1944 is the year that we discover in her books.
Following the success of the first three American dolls, there were new introductions of historical characters. Some of them have since been retired. Here is a list of their names and the time period that is featured in their stories:
- Felicity - 1774
- Addy - 1864
- Josefina - 1824
- Kit - 1934
- Kaya - 1764
- Nellie - 1906
- Elizabeth - 1774
- Emily - 1944
- Julie - 1974
- Ivy - 1974
- Ruthie - 1934
- Rebecca - 1914
There are a couple of historical characters that are friends and are based in the same time period and book series.
Nellie is friends with Samantha from 1904. She has a few books of her own, but for the most part you will find her in Samantha's books.
Emily is friends with Molly in 1944. Similarly she can be found in Molly's books.
Ivy is best friends with Julie from 1974. You can read about her in Julie's series.
Elizabeth and Felicity are both from the 1774 time period and can be found together in those books. (These dolls have since been retired.)
Ruthie can be found in Kit's story from the 1934 time period.
American Girl Games
Another fun thing to do at a party or sleepover is to play games. There is a great selection of American Girl games that you can play with friends. From video games to board games, you can choose whichever one you feel like playing.
There is even a book of mini games, riddles and crossword puzzles. We love this one! We took it on our vacation when we visited American Girl Place Chicago.
