Hot Toys for Christmas 2011 :: Loopz Game by Mattel

By Rose Mari

Loopz may be the sleeper toy of this Christmas season. It is the kind of toy that will get the family to gather around a table and make a few memories. Slightly addictive, but simple to play it, may remind parents of that classic game - Simon Says. It is similar, but amped up for the new generation.

Everyone loves this game. From grandparents (granparents.com named it best of toy fair in Feb 2010) to 20-something year old band members (scroll down to watch 3OH!3 play Loopz)!

How do you play Loopz?

7 Modes of Loopz Play

  1. Music Studio - select the instrument you want. Each instrument gives you 10 sounds. You create the sounds by passing your hand or hands through each loop. Create your own song using the Loopz Music Studio.
  2. Repeat the Beat - closest to Simon Says. You repeat the beat to an increasing pace of a pattern of lights. Mess up and you are out.
  3. Reflex Master - challenge your reflexes. You can play this mode with up to 4 players to see who has the best reflexes. Try to tag as many lights as you can in 30 seconds.
  4. Rhythm and Flow - You have to keep up with the beat and rhythm of the song by waving your hands through the indicated loopz. If you goof, the song ends and you have to start over. Only one player mode here, but you have 3 levels of increasing difficulty.
  5. Musicology - Here you can build songs by completing the patterns. Get 5 patterns in a row and you have completed the song. Three levels on this mode.
  6. Freestyle DJ - Want to be a DJ? Choose your track & insert your own beats by waving your hand or hands into the loopz.
  7. Versus Mode - Here is where you head to head competition is at it's best. You build the pattern as you go and doesn't stop until one player messes up. But the game isn't over yet, you get another chance. The game doesn't stop until one player messes up 3 times. Two player mode.

Loopz will also keep track of your scores for you. You also have 5 volume settings to control.

This electronic toy uses hand eye coordination, memory skills, reflexes and concentration.

This game will take 4 "AA" batteries.

Who is this game suitable for? Anyone ages 7 - 70!
